In its first year of life, Mad Cool Festival has been recognized by the European Festival Awards (with a nomination in the category of Best New Festival) and by the Iberian Festival Awards in all categories to which they compete: Best Major Festival, Best Line-Up, Best New Festival, Best infrastructure and Best International Performance (Neil Young).
The European Festival Awards are widely considered to be the premier event for recognising the industry’s collective achievements. The EFAs were established in 2009 in co-operation with Festival Awards Ltd, Yourope (the European Festival Association) and Eurosonic Noorderslag. Last year’s event saw a record breaking edition with over 800,000 votes, and more than 350 festivals taking part from 50 different European countries. The ceremony set to take place on January 11 2017 in Groningen, The Netherlands.
The Iberian Festival Awards, which this year celebrates their second edition, will recognize the contributions and achievements of the event organizers, and all the other players in the music festivals industry in Spain and Portugal. This initiative aims also to enhance Iberian relations, to optimize and operationally effective dyads between the two countries.. The winners will be decided by a combination of public vote and an industry jury panel from Portugal and Spain. The ceremony will be held on 16 March 2017 at the MACBA in Barcelona, within the cycle Talkfest - International Forum of Music Festivals.
